Green Education and Environmental Awareness Among Learners

Abstract

Green education nurtures environmental awareness, knowledge, and sensitivity, positioning learners, schools, and communities as key actors in sustainability. The framework informs curricula, pedagogy, assessment, and non-formal and informal initiatives with potential for social change (Samantha Hope, 2005). Environmental awareness broadly encompasses knowledge, sensibility, and behaviour related to diverse problems—with positive dispositions towards actions to promote sustainability (Haryaningtyas, 2016). This disposition constitutes environmental awareness (Sanders, 2018). Empowering youth toward future-oriented skills, knowledge, and critical systems understanding requires education for a sustainable future at all system levels from the individual through family, peers, community, region, nation, and globe.
